A few observations

A few things I have observed in the past 2 weeks.
The flashing lights on the police cars mean "do not disturb me, I am on my way to for donuts." We have seen the police here n Guangzhou and in Nanjing, with flashing lights driving down the road, highway etc... usually 40 mph or so. Never in a hurry. I saw 2 officers yesterday in their little Honda fit Police car SLEEPING and I mean snoring and the lights were on. See what I mean?
Traffic laws are also only suggestions.
Yellow lights mean pick up the pace, not-prepare to slow and then stop.
Red lights mean, if there is an oncoming vehicle continue through the intersection until another car stops you and if there is not other car, continue on through.
Stop signs mean slow your roll, not stop.
Honking of the horn is legal in Nanjing so drivers BLAST the horn 24 hours a day. Here in Guangzhou it is illegal, so you may hear a gentle tap.
Driving at any time is taking your life in your hands, our driver in Nanjing needed to make a u-turn. He made this u-turn in directly in front of a moving cement truck!
This is quite common.
Two lane really mean six. Lanes are needed for the buses, cars, bicycles and taxies.
If a car breaks down or has a flat, the driver will usually just STOP WHERE THEY ARE and attempt to fix the problem.
If passengers need to exit a vehicle-like the clowns in the clown car, they will.
Seat belts are not required and neither are car seats for the little ones. This is been determined to be unnecessary and possibly useless.
This may be true because no body speeds. period. Even on the freeway, I don't think our driver ever drove over 45 mph-maybe 50 once, downhill.
